Detroit Tigers // Toronto Blue Jays Trade Review

Detroit SP Jonathon Crawford is heading to his new home in Toronto.

Detroit, MI:: The new General Manager of the Detroit Tigers made did not waste any time after being appointed to make his first deal of his tenure on Wednesday. The Detroit Tigers sent SP Jonathon Crawford, RP Bruce Rondon, and SS Jose Iglesias north of the border for five players who are all under the age of 22 years old.

Crawford, 25 years old, is only in his third season in the majors in which he logged a .500 record at 19-19 with a 4.19 ERA in 332 innings. He definitely has struggled for the Tigers in his two years, so a new home may do him very good. Crawford is coming off a 13-12 season in which he struck out 135 batters in his 203 innings. Crawford relies on two very good pitches, a fastball and a splitter. You know what you are getting with Crawford and Toronto will definitely like what they see.

Rondon, 26 years old, was a very good pitcher this season out of the bullpen for the Tigers. He had a 5-2 record in his 75 innings pitched including 67 strikeouts and a 2.87 ERA. Rondon is someone who will definitely find a home in any bullpen. The only knock on Rendon is his lack of control as he also averaged a walk every other inning last season.

The player in which the Tigers General Manager hated losing the most in the deal was SS Jose Iglesias. Iglesias, 27 years old, is coming off a season in which he played in 136 games and hit .286. That is just icing on the cake as Iglesias is really known for his glove. Iglesias had 411 assists, 111 double plays and 248 putouts with only 9 errors last season at SS. This is the type of person you want there and Toronto really landed a gem.

In return for those three players, the Tigers landed 1B Bradley Hart (.377, 22 HRs, 88 RBI in AAA), C Stryker Trahan (.251, 10 HRs, 59 RBI in A), SP Phillip Bickford (3-0, 3.26 ERA, 111K's, 163 innings in AA), SP Kyle Westerfield (8-5, 3.54 ERA, 129K's, 140 Innings in A), and RP Troy Baldwin (2-0, 4.50 ERA, 45K's in 52 innings in A).

Overall, this trade was very solid for both sides as both really got what they wanted from the trade.
